MP Requests National Nutrition Agency to Cancel Electric Motorcycle Procurement for Free Nutritious Meals Programme
Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR), Charles Honoris, has requested that the National Nutrition Agency cancel the procurement of tens of thousands of electric motorcycles for the operational needs of the free nutritious meals programme. According to him, the procurement of vehicles for the heads of nutrition fulfilment service units lacks urgency. He stated that the purpose of the MBG project is to improve the nutritional condition of the nation’s children, especially amid the government’s efficiency instructions. “We request that BGN cancel that procurement (of motorcycles),” said Charles when met in the DPR complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, 9 April 2026. This politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle said that there should be improvements in the procurement mechanism for goods and services at this nutrition-focused institution. Charles stated that every procurement should adhere to principles of transparency and being on target. “The procurement of those motorcycles is highly improper, so we want to question the purpose, urgency, and basis of that procurement,” said Charles. In addition, he assessed that the procurement of tens of thousands of motorcycles is unusual. Charles highlighted that the price of the motorcycles ordered by BGN for MBG operations is not comparable to similar vehicles produced domestically. Previously, the Head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana, said that 21,000 electric motorcycles for the free nutritious meals (MBG) project purchased by his agency cost Rp 42 million per unit. Dadan claimed that the price of the electric motorcycles to be given to the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens is below market price. “The market price is Rp 52 million, but we bought them, if I’m not mistaken, for Rp 42 million, below the market price,” said Dadan when at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Dadan said that the procurement of electric motorcycles is only budgeted for 2025. BGN did not budget for the same item in 2026. This lecturer from Bogor Agricultural Institute conveyed that the electric motorcycles will be used for SPPG in areas with difficult access. “We will distribute them later for the operations of all personnel in SPPG, especially in hard-to-reach areas,” said Dadan.
