JAKARTA - A member of the DPR has highlighted problems with cadets at the Police Academy (Akpol) and suspects that those with issues entered through underhanded channels.

“I see that Akpol has had one person expelled, with deviant behaviour,” said Irjen (Retd) Safaruddin, a member of Commission III DPR from the PDI-Perjuangan faction, during a meeting at Commission III DPR, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026).

Safaruddin highlighted the ongoing violence occurring at Akpol and SPN. Additionally, there was a female Akpol cadet who suffered a stroke.

“There was also a stroke case, a female cadet had a stroke. This shouldn’t be happening,” he said.

Safaruddin suspects that the cadet was actually a nepotism placement or paid for entry, because those who pass to Akpol are supposed to be healthy.

“So the recruitment is wrong. The recruitment is wrong. Paid or nepotism? Paid or nepotism? As a result, the Lemdiklat processes those who do not meet health standards,” said the former East Kalimantan Police Chief.

Before Safaruddin spoke, the Acting Head of the Police Education and Training Agency (Kalemdiklat) Polri, Irjen Andi Rian Djajadi, reported several problematic trainees in Polri throughout 2025.

At the Police Academy (Akpol), one cadet was expelled or dropped out (DO) due to deviant behaviour.

“At STIK (Police Science College), 57 trainees were given mental grade sanctions for altering exam scores, 4 trainees were indicated for drug use, and 4 trainees used proxies in the exam process,” Andi Rian said during the Commission III DPR meeting at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026).

Not only the problematic cases, Andi Rian also revealed trainees who died while undergoing education.

“At Akpol, one female cadet passed away due to heat stroke. There were two Setukpa (Officer Formation School) trainees and one Pusdik Sabhara trainee who died from heart attacks,” he explained.

“One personnel at Pusdik Brimob due to gastric acid issues, and one personnel at SPN Papua due to pneumonia and HIV infection,” Andi Rian added.
