MP Questions Former Tax Official's Intention to Become Supreme Court Justice Candidate

Supreme Court justice candidate for the State Administrative Chamber (tax) Hari Sih Advianto underwent a fit and proper test at Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR). Commission III member from the PDIP faction I Wayan Sudirta probed Hari Sih Advianto’s intention to become a Supreme Court justice candidate, given his previous track record as a tax official.

The fit and proper test for Supreme Court justice candidates and ad hoc judge candidates was held in the Commission III meeting room at the DPR complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (13/8/2026). I Wayan Sudirta asked Hari Sih Advianto a fundamental question.

“Since when have you aspired to become a judge? And why must you become a judge? After all, being a tax official is not an ordinary position. Why do you want to become a judge?” asked I Wayan Sudirta during the meeting.

Wayan considered the position of judge to be demanding and challenging. Therefore, Wayan emphasised the need for a specific reason from Hari Sih Advianto to become a Supreme Court justice candidate for the State Administrative Chamber.

“The challenge of becoming a judge is indeed heavy. Could you tell us so that we can be convinced? Although from your gestures, you seem somewhat confident,” he said.

“You have a high level of confidence to become a judge. But we need to know, we need a more touching story, why you deserve to be passed as a Supreme Court justice?” he added.

Hari Sih Advianto then explained his career track record at the Directorate General of Taxes from 1991 to 2009, before continuing his career as a taxation instructor at the tax court. From there, Advianto pursued a career as a judge despite having a background in accounting.

“It is true that if you want to know my background, I used to work at the Directorate General of Taxes, from 1991 to 2009. Then I moved to become a taxation instructor, a teaching staff member and trainer for employees at the tax court, at the taxation training centre,” said Advianto.

Advianto stated that initially there was no plan to become a judge. However, because an opportunity arose, he made the best use of it by developing his abilities in the field of law.

“Then after that there was a judge recruitment, and I applied to become a judge. It is true that there was actually no plan, because my basic background is indeed accounting,” said Advianto.

“So it was indeed not in the field of law. Then after that opportunity arose, we began studying law until finally taking a Doctorate in Law,” he continued.

Advianto said that everyone has an obligation to develop their talents. Advianto believes that a good person is one who can be of benefit to others.

“And regarding the motivation to become a Supreme Court justice, we all have an obligation to develop our talents. And the best human being is one who is beneficial to other human beings. I simply want to carry that out so that what I have can be more beneficial,” he added.
