MP Proposes Daycare Caregivers Must Have Special Competencies
Audits alone are insufficient without accompanying standardisation and mandatory certification for all caregiving personnel.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Amelia Anggraini has proposed that caregivers in child daycare centres must possess special competencies, as the profession demands understanding of child protection, psychological development, and handling emergency situations.
In the wake of a violence case at a daycare in Yogyakarta, she stated that the state must establish binding national standards, ensuring every daycare maintains clear and measurable quality.
“Audit alone is not enough without being followed by standardisation and mandatory certification for all caregiving personnel,” said Amelia in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“Therefore, the required response cannot be partial; it must be systemic, measurable, and sustainable,” she added.
She remarked that the case should serve as a national momentum to overhaul Indonesia’s child protection system. The state, society, and all stakeholders must ensure that every childcare space is safe, dignified, and free from violence.
According to her, oversight must no longer be sectoral and sporadic. There should be integration across relevant ministries and local governments within a unified oversight system.
“The utilisation of technology such as integrated CCTV that can be audited periodically should also be mandatory, not merely optional. Transparency becomes an effective prevention instrument in this context,” she said.
