MP Demands Investigation into Andrie Yunus Case Not Be Halted
A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Tubagus Hasanuddin, has emphasised that the handover of the position of Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais TNI) by Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo must not halt the enforcement of the law in the Andrie Yunus case. TB Hasanuddin—as Tubagus is affectionately known—stated that Yudi Abrimantyo’s decision to relinquish his post after a subordinate was allegedly involved in the attack on Andrie is commendable.
Tubagus views this action as demonstrating accountability and integrity in carrying out duties. However, this politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle emphasised that the investigation into the acid splashing incident against Andrie Yunus must continue thoroughly and transparently.
Tubagus stated that law enforcement must uncover not only the on-the-ground perpetrators but also investigate the actors who planned or were behind the incident. “This is important to avoid raising questions and disappointment among the public,” said TB Hasanuddin in a written statement uploaded to the DPR website on Friday, 27 March 2026.
This TNI retiree also stressed that the DPR has an oversight role. That oversight function, according to Tubagus, includes through intelligence oversight teams or mechanisms that work diligently to ensure this case is open and clear to the public.
Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus—who frequently criticises the TNI Law and the expansion of the military’s role in civilian spaces—was doused with acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Andrie was splashed with a dangerous solution by two unidentified individuals. The two rode a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction to Andrie.
The corrosive chemical liquid affected the right side of Andrie’s body, including his eye, face, chest, and hand. Part of his clothing also melted due to the acid. Medical examination results showed Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie is currently undergoing treatment at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM).
The Indonesian National Police and the TNI are each investigating the case. However, the findings of the two institutions differ. The Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police stated there are two suspects with initials BHC and MAK.
Meanwhile, the TNI revealed that four members from Bais TNI are suspected of involvement in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The four are Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES. The TNI Military Police Centre claims the four alleged perpetrators have been detained since Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
Recently, the Head of Bais TNI, Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo, is said to have relinquished his position. The TNI Information Centre Head, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the leadership change at Bais TNI is a consequence of the acid attack case against the human rights activist Andrie Yunus.
“As a form of accountability, today the handover of the Kabais position has been carried out,” said Aulia Dwi Nasrullah at the TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
The two-star general did not provide further details regarding the TNI Kabais change, including who the high-ranking officer replacing Yudi is.
