Wihadi stated that global oil prices are currently unstable. On the other hand, he said, the projected budget deficit of 2.9% remains safe. He suggested that JK examine the state budget structure before proposing a fuel price increase.

“Regarding Mr JK’s statement urging the government to raise fuel prices, we see that global oil prices are still unstable and Indonesia’s state budget structure remains intact with a 2.9% deficit. This means that before Mr JK makes a statement, he should certainly look at the budget structure,” said Wihadi on Friday (10/4/2026).

Wihadi is confident that the government can handle the energy crisis resulting from geopolitical conditions. He noted that, in the current situation, the decision not to raise fuel prices is precisely right because it can maintain public purchasing power.

“By not raising it, we are preserving purchasing power, and with purchasing power still running well, state revenues can still proceed smoothly,” said Wihadi.

Wihadi assessed that JK’s proposal regarding fuel prices could actually burden the government if followed. He believes that a fuel price increase could lower public purchasing power and reduce state revenues.

“So, what needs to be considered is Mr JK’s statement urging that, we must see the tendency leading to things that indeed push the government in a situation that might make handling this crisis even heavier. Because the state budget will not run well; with a fuel price increase, it would cause purchasing power to decline and state revenues to decrease,” said Wihadi.

Wihadi emphasised that the country’s economic growth is still in good condition, where government programmes are running. He appreciated the government’s decision not to raise fuel prices.

“I think we should appreciate Mr Prabowo because by not raising fuel prices in the current situation, it will give a good effect to the government rather than to the Indonesian people themselves. I think before looking at the state budget and its structure, it’s better if Mr JK refrains from commenting for now,” he said.
