MP Confirms Free Nutritious Meal Programme Meets Standards
Surabaya (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Haryo Soekartono, has assured that the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) is being implemented according to quality and food safety standards, including in the city of Surabaya, East Java.
During a working visit to the Pagesangan Nutritional Service Unit (SPPG) in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday, Bambang assessed that the facilities and food management systems have met hygiene and safety standards, from the storage of raw materials to distribution to beneficiaries.
“The public needs to know that the equipment used is very modern,” he said.
According to him, the readiness of these facilities and infrastructure shows the seriousness in maintaining the nutritional quality and health of the beneficiary children.
“However, there must still be strict sanctions. If proven negligent, the permit can be revoked and there will be legal consequences in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.
He emphasised that supervision needs to be strengthened to prevent violations that could harm the community.
Bambang also conveyed positive feedback from the student beneficiaries. According to him, the programme helps reduce students’ daily expenses so that their pocket money can be saved.
He said that the Pagesangan SPPG is one of the units with the largest number of schools in the area, although each school has a relatively small number of students.
According to Zainal, the MP’s visit was a form of supervision as well as support for the implementation of the programme in the field.
He assessed that the programme has a broad economic impact because it involves MSME actors, food suppliers, to local traders around the kitchen.
