MP Assures National Energy Supply Remains Secure, Urges Public Not to Panic
Jakarta – A member of Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Cek Endra, has urged the public to remain calm and avoid excessive purchases (panic buying) of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG amid geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East region, including potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Cek Endra, Indonesia’s dependence on energy supplies via the Strait of Hormuz is relatively limited. Crude oil imports passing through that route account for only about 20–25 percent of total national imports, while fuels such as Pertalite and Pertamax do not directly rely on supplies from that area.
“This means that in terms of physical supply, we are still in a safe condition. The distribution of BBM and LPG continues to run normally, so the public does not need to worry excessively,” said Cek Endra in a written statement on Friday, 27 March 2026.
He added that Indonesia’s energy import sources have been diversified from various countries, supported by the readiness of operational reserves by PT Pertamina (Persero) to ensure supply continuity in the short term.
On that occasion, Cek Endra conveyed that the DPR RI welcomes the government’s steps, particularly those of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources under the leadership of Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, in anticipating global energy sector dynamics through supply diversification, reserve strengthening, and efforts to maintain national energy stability.
“We appreciate the government’s anticipatory measures, especially the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in ensuring that energy supplies remain secure amid global uncertainties,” he emphasised.
Furthermore, he explained that the main impact of global tensions is more felt on the price side rather than availability. Therefore, the government is deemed to have policy instruments to maintain price stability while protecting the public’s purchasing power.
Commission XII of the DPR RI will continue to carry out its oversight function to ensure that energy distribution remains smooth.
Cek Endra also encouraged the public to use energy wisely and avoid excessive purchases.
“We urge the public to remain calm, not to engage in panic buying, and to trust that the government, along with all stakeholders, continues to work to safeguard national energy resilience,” he concluded.
