Jakarta – A member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Cek Endra, has expressed appreciation for the success of SKK Migas and PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. in discovering a new gas reserve through the NEB-79ST well in West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi.

This discovery is regarded as good news for strengthening national energy resilience, particularly in increasing domestic LPG supply.

According to Cek Endra, the success of drilling the NEB-79ST well, which yielded a gas flow of 6.3 MMSCFD, demonstrates that the national oil and gas potential, especially in the Jambi region, remains highly prospective for optimal development.

“This discovery is an achievement worthy of appreciation. In addition to boosting national gas production, the gas content, which includes propane and butane, also has the potential to directly support an increase in domestic LPG production,” said Cek Endra in his statement on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

He assessed that this achievement is inseparable from the government’s policy direction through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which continues to encourage increased investment and exploration activities in the upstream oil and gas sector, including to maintain national production sustainability.

“We also appreciate the government’s steps, particularly the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, in continuously strengthening the investment climate and providing policy support for oil and gas exploration and development activities. This is an important factor in driving new discoveries like in Jabung,” he continued.

He explained that increasing domestic LPG production is very important given the continuously rising national LPG needs, while dependence on imports remains significant.

Therefore, every additional supply from within the country will have a significant impact on strengthening the national energy balance.

Furthermore, Cek Endra assessed that this success also reflects the effectiveness of upstream oil and gas management conducted professionally and efficiently, including in terms of occupational safety as evidenced by the zero accident achievement during the well drilling and completion process.

He also urged SKK Migas and the oil and gas cooperation contract contractors (KKKS) to accelerate the development of subsequent wells, including plans for drilling the Gemah-86 well, to ensure the continuity of national oil and gas production and support the achievement of oil and gas lifting targets in the state budget.
