Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Eric Hermawan, has appreciated the government’s performance in maintaining the stability of fuel oil (BBM) prices amid global dynamics.

According to him, the strategic steps taken by the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) have been able to control BBM prices to remain affordable for the public.

Eric, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, said that the role of ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has been quite significant in ensuring that energy policies run adaptively amid geopolitical pressures and fluctuations in world oil prices.

“The government’s efforts to keep BBM prices stable deserve appreciation, as they directly impact the public’s purchasing power,” he stated.

He conveyed that BBM price stability is an important factor in maintaining national inflation under control, while also supporting economic growth.

Amid regional dynamics, including tensions in global energy distribution routes, the government is deemed capable of taking anticipatory measures so that the impact on domestic BBM prices can be minimised.

Eric hopes that the policies that have been running can continue to be maintained, while still prioritising the principles of prudence and favouring the wider public.

Previously, ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, together with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, has endeavoured to prevent price increases for subsidised BBM, such as Pertalite and solar, amid the energy crisis.

“I, with the Finance Minister, are continuously seeking the best solutions. Even in a crisis, we still pay attention to the people’s conditions,” Bahlil said when conducting an inspection in Central Java, monitored online from the ESDM Ministry in Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3).

President Prabowo Subianto is said to have directed Bahlil and Purbaya to find a way out so as not to burden the people amid the global energy crisis due to the war between the United States-Israel and Iran.

So far, there are no plans to raise prices for subsidised BBM. Energy stocks, including gasoline, solar, and LPG, are still safe.
