REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – TB Hasanuddin, a member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), stated that the DPR RI has an Intelligence Oversight Team (Timwas) that can investigate the case of the acid attack on the activist and Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus. The case is deemed not an ordinary matter given the alleged involvement of intelligence apparatus.

“Because the perpetrator is suspected to be from the BAIS element, which is part of the intelligence apparatus, its handling cannot be treated as an ordinary case. This concerns public trust in state institutions,” said TB Hasanuddin in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the team was formed by Commission I of the DPR RI, consisting of permanent overseers representing each political party faction and the commission leadership. The team, he said, has been approved and sworn in during a DPR RI Plenary Session and has the obligation to maintain intelligence secrecy in accordance with legal provisions.

The formation of the team, he said, is in line with Article 43 of Law No. 17 of 2011 on State Intelligence, which states that there is a clear oversight mechanism for the conduct of intelligence, both internally and externally.
