MP: 6 New Fighter Jets to Strengthen Defence Amidst Global Dynamics
The addition of these defence assets is crucial, especially given the current state of global geopolitical instability.
Oleh Soleh, a member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), stated that the addition of six Rafale fighter jet units and various other modern main weapons systems (alutsista) for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) represents a strategic step in strengthening the national defence system. This comes at a time when global geopolitics are becoming increasingly complex and uncertain.
According to Soleh, strengthening defence equipment will have a significant impact on Indonesia’s readiness to maintain national sovereignty across air, sea, and land territories. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts undertaken by President Prabowo Subianto.
“The delivery of Rafale fighter jets and various other modern defence assets will further strengthen Indonesia’s defence. This addition of weaponry is very important, particularly in the current uncertain global geopolitical situation,” Oleh said in Jakarta on Monday.
He assessed that the threat of conflict could arise at any time and from any direction towards Indonesia. Therefore, he believes Indonesia must always be prepared to face all forms of threats.
He noted that various ongoing international conflicts, including the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, serve as important lessons for every nation to possess a robust defence system. He emphasised that a nation’s defence is vital and a decisive factor in maintaining national sovereignty.
Consequently, he expressed hope that the continuous modernisation of defence assets by the government would serve as a strong foundation for Indonesia to maintain national stability, protect sovereign territories, and strengthen Indonesia’s position within global affairs.
“A nation with weak defences will be highly vulnerable to threats and attacks from other parties,” he added.
