Move to sue PKB 'unreasonable'

KEDIRI: The National Awakening Party's (PKB) decision last year to suspend party leader Alwi Shihab and secretary-general Saifullah Yusuf after the two accepted Cabinet posts was final, a party official said on Monday.

PKB deputy leader Mahfud MD said the recent move by Alwi and Saifullah to take legal action against the party was unreasonable.

"When the central board made the decision, Pak Alwi and Gus Ipul (Saifullah's nickname) attended the meeting and accepted it," he said.

Mahfud explained that the suspension of Alwi and Saifullah was a consequence of their decision to accept their appointments as members of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Cabinet as the PKB had decided not to support any candidates in last year's presidential election.

It has been reported that Saifullah was keen to join the race for PKB's top post at the upcoming party congress this month -- Antara
