PDI Perjuangan General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri has expressed her condolences over the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent following an Israeli attack. Megawati has called on all political forces to unite in demanding justice for the three fallen soldiers.

This was conveyed through a circular letter signed by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and Deputy Chair of the PDIP Central Executive Board Ahmad Basarah on Monday (30/3/2026). In the letter, Megawati instructed PDIP ranks to pay respects to the late soldiers.

“Megawati Soekarnoputri and the entire PDIP family extend our deepest condolences over the passing of TNI soldier from the Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL Task Force, Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who fell as a flower of the nation while carrying out state duties as part of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon,” stated the circular, quoted on Thursday (2/4).

“The PDIP family will also work together to assist the victim’s family, including providing housing compensation or future scholarships for his child, who is currently only 2 years old,” it continued.

PDIP has expressed the highest respect for the soldiers who fell in Lebanon. PDIP views the fallen soldiers as shields and the true embodiment of the mandate of the 1945 Constitution.

“For nearly seven decades, the Garuda Contingent has been the crown jewel of Indonesia’s diplomacy on the world stage, proving that this nation not only speaks of peace but is also willing to sacrifice for its realisation under the United Nations mandate,” it said.

PDIP strongly condemns any actions that result in casualties among UN peacekeeping personnel. PDIP considers attacks on peacekeepers to be a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international humanitarian law.

PDIP urges that an investigation be conducted into the incident. In addition, PDIP encourages the government to take on a greater leadership role.

“Fully supporting UNIFIL’s efforts to open an independent investigation and urging that the results be transparently conveyed to the public and the UN Security Council,” it stated.

“Encouraging the Indonesian government to take a leadership role among troop-contributing countries to strengthen the protection regime for UN peacekeeping personnel, including through a review of more protective Rules of Engagement,” it continued.

Furthermore, PDIP calls on all political forces to unite, particularly in demanding justice for the fallen soldiers and ensuring the safety of Indonesian troops.

“Calling on all national political forces to unite and collaborate in demanding justice for the fallen soldiers and ensuring the safety of more than 1,200 Indonesian soldiers still serving in Lebanon,” it concluded.
