Mount Sinabung Remains on Alert Status, 650 Residents Evacuated

Mount Sinabung’s activity in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, remains at Level III (Alert) following its recent eruption on Monday (31/08/2026). As of Wednesday (02/09/2026), the volcano continues to eject volcanic ash, while hundreds of residents affected by the eruption remain in evacuation centres.

The North Sumatra Provincial Government previously evacuated around 650 residents from Kuta Tengah Village to an evacuation post in Sukatepu Village, Naman Teran District.

The Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has advised the public and tourists to avoid all activities near the summit of Mount Sinabung, as seismic data indicates ongoing volcanic activity. Amidst these conditions, residents in the evacuation centres are making efforts to maintain their health and protect themselves from exposure to volcanic ash.
