Mount Semeru Erupts Three Times This Morning, Ash Column Reaches 900 Metres

Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java, erupted three times on Thursday morning (25/6/2026). The highest volcano on Java Island began erupting at 05:44 WIB, with an observed ash column height of approximately 700 metres above the summit, or around 4,376 metres above sea level, according to the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG). A second eruption occurred at 06:36 WIB, producing a white to grey ash column reaching 900 metres above the peak, approximately 4,576 metres above sea level. The most recent eruption was recorded at 06:51 WIB, with an ash column height of around 600 metres above the summit, or 4,276 metres above sea level, and grey ash drifting towards the southwest.
