Mount Rinjani National Park Office confirms wildfire extinguished

The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Office in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has confirmed that a surface land fire near the camp area at Pelawangan on the Sembalun hiking route in the Rinjani area of Lombok has been successfully extinguished.

“The land fire in the Rinjani area of Lombok has been brought under control,” said Head of Administrative Affairs at the TNGR Office, Astekita Ardi, in Mataram on Tuesday.

He said the fire occurred on Monday afternoon, 10 August 2026, and a joint team immediately moved quickly to extinguish and control the flames.

“The fire, which burned surface vegetation covering approximately 1.6 hectares, was eventually brought under control and declared extinguished that same evening,” said Astekita Ardi.

“Shared synergy and concern are important strengths in maintaining the safety and preservation of Rinjani,” he said.

Previously, the Sembalun Police Sector Team carried out patrols while also providing public order and security guidance to residents, visitors and hikers in anticipation of land fires on Mount Rinjani.

Sembalun Police Chief, First Inspector Lalu Subadri, said the land and forest fire prevention awareness activities targeted visitors and residents within the TNGR area, Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency.

“We urge residents not to clear land by burning, not to discard cigarette butts carelessly, and not to light campfires or burn rubbish in areas that could potentially cause fires,” he said.

In addition to providing direct guidance, the Sembalun Police Chief also suggested that the TNGR office install banners containing land and forest fire prevention messages in locations easily visible to visitors and hikers.

“This activity is a form of the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to supporting land and forest fire prevention efforts, while also maintaining the security and preservation of the TNGR area,” he said.
