BNPB’s acting Head of Disaster Data, Information and Communications Dodi Yuleova said here Wednesday that the fire spread rapidly through dry alang-alang grasslands amid strong winds.

“The fire occurred in the Mount Picung hills, specifically on grassland in Cikondang Village, Cibeber Subistrict,” Dodi said.

The cause remained unknown after the fire was detected at about 5:30 p.m. local time on Monday (Aug. 10), quickly spreading across three hectares of hillside.

A joint team from Cianjur’s disaster agency, fire department, Cibeber police and local residents deployed to extinguish the blaze using ground-based water spraying in the tourist village.

“Coordinated efforts at the site effectively contained the hotspots, preventing the fire from spreading to residential areas or surrounding land,” Dodi said.

Dodi said emergency response efforts had been completed and the site was secure, with authorities continuing to monitor the area for possible flare-ups.

“The fire has now been completely extinguished,” he said.
