Volcanic activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has continued to show high intensity over recent days. The Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano Observation Post (PPG) recorded ongoing eruptions with ash columns reaching up to 1,500 metres above the mountain peak.

Due to these conditions, officials have intensified monitoring and are urging the public to remain vigilant against potential dangers, including both eruptions and the threat of rain-induced lahar floods. Herman Yosep M Boro, Head of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki Observation Post in Wulanggitang, stated that the intensity of the volcano’s activity remains at a significant level. “According to our reports, the intensity of eruptions remains quite high as of now,” Herman said when contacted from Kupang on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

Eruptions have occurred repeatedly over the last two days. Since the initial eruption on Friday, 5 June 2026, monitoring data shows that eight eruptions occurred throughout Monday, 8 June 20_6. During these events, ash columns were observed rising between 800 and 1,500 metres from the peak.

Eruptive activity continued on Tuesday morning. Between 01:00 and 06:00 WITA, three eruptions were recorded, followed by another three eruptions between 06:00 and 10:35 WITA. The resulting ash columns ranged from 600 to 1,500 metres above the peak.

This ongoing sequence of activity indicates that the volcanic dynamics of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki remain active, and the public is advised to follow official information from relevant authorities. The volcano’s status remains at Level III (Alert). The mountain, which previously experienced a major eruption in November 2024, remains under intensive monitoring by volcanologists. The massive eruption in late 2024 was known to have forced approximately 12,200 residents to evacuate the affected areas. With the Alert status still in effect, both residents and tourists are requested to comply with all recommendations issued by officials to avoid safety risks.
