Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Erupts Five Times, Ash Column Reaches 1,000 Metres

The Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano Observation Post in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, reported that the volcano erupted five times on Friday morning, with ash column heights ranging from 300 to 1,000 metres above the peak. Observation officer Bramantya Aji Mahendra noted that during the 06:00 to 12:00 WITA monitoring period, two eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9–4.4 millimetres and durations of 31–32 seconds were also recorded, along with three non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4.4–7.4 millimetres lasting 85–135 seconds.

Visual observations revealed lava deposits extending approximately 4.34 kilometres northeast of the eruption centre and 3.8 kilometres west-northwest. The Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has recommended that residents and visitors refrain from any activities within a five-kilometre radius of the eruption centre.

Residents affected by ashfall are advised to wear masks or nose and mouth coverings to prevent respiratory issues from volcanic ash. The public is also urged to remain alert for potential cold lava floods in rivers originating at the summit, particularly in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote during periods of heavy rainfall. The PVMBG has called on the community to stay calm, follow local government directives, and disregard unverified information, while local authorities are asked to maintain coordination with the observation post and PVMBG for the latest updates on volcanic activity.
