Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted on Tuesday morning, with a volcanic ash plume reaching a height of 1 kilometre above the summit. The eruption, which occurred at 07:47 WITA, was confirmed by Herman Yosef Mboro, Chairman of the Lewotobia Laki-laki Volcano Observation Post (PPGA).

“An eruption of Mt. Lewotobi Laki-laki, East Nusa Tenggara, occurred on 2 June 2026 at 07:47 WITA, with an observed ash column height of approximately 1,000 m above the peak (± 2,584 m above sea level),” stated Herman. He noted that the ash column appeared grey with thick intensity, drifting towards the southwest and west.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimetres and lasted for approximately 2 minutes and 28 seconds, according to the report from the PPGA in Pululera Village, Wulanggitang District.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, which stands at 1,584 metres above sea level and is located in Nurabelen Village, Ilebura District, is currently at Alert Level III. Due to this status, the PPGA has recommended that the public refrain from any activities within a five-kilometre radius of the eruption centre.

Herman also advised residents to remain vigilant regarding the potential for rain-induced lahar floods in rivers originating from the peak of Mt. Lewotobi Laki-laki, particularly if high-intensity rainfall occurs in areas such as Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote. Furthermore, those affected by falling ash are urged to wear masks and nose and mouth coverings to prevent respiratory issues caused by volcanic ash.
