Mount Lewotobi Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Column Reaches 1,000 Metres

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted again this morning, precisely at 08:12 Wita. During this eruption, the ash column was observed reaching 1,000 metres above the crater’s peak.

“This eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 44.4 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 34 seconds,” said Bramantya Aji Putra Mahendra, an officer at the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano Observation Post (PGA), in an official statement on Saturday (11/7/2026).

Bramantya stated that the lava deposits are divided into two sections, extending 4,340 metres northeast from the eruption centre and 3,800 metres west from the eruption centre. He urged residents and tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometre radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki eruption centre.

“Residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki should be aware of the potential for rain-triggered lahars in rivers originating at the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki if high-intensity rainfall occurs, especially in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, and Boru, Nawakote,” he added.

Furthermore, communities affected by the volcanic ashfall from Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki are advised to wear masks or nose and mouth coverings. This aims to mitigate the dangers of volcanic ash to the respiratory system.

“The status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki remains at Level III, Alert,” concluded Bramantya.
