Mount Karangetang Ejects Incandescent Material, Status Remains at Alert Level II

The Head of the Mount Karangetang Observation Post, Yudia P Tatipang, stated that the eruption of Mount Karangetang on Siau Island caused incandescent material to be ejected around the crater. “A fairly strong explosive eruption occurred this evening, followed by the ejection of incandescent material around the crater,” he said in Manado on Sunday evening. Yudia explained that the ejected material subsequently ignited the alang-alang grass surrounding the crater. “The flames then reflected off the clouds, making the fire appear large. The eruption was directed towards the north,” he added. He mentioned that the ejected incandescent material likely did not reach residential areas. “Following the eruption, we have instructed personnel in the field to remain vigilant and monitor for any lava flows,” he said. The status of Mount Karangetang remains at Level II (Alert). Yudia urged residents to continue following the issued recommendations to prevent any undesirable incidents.
