Mount Guntur's alert status lowered
GARUT, West Java: Director of volcanology and geology disaster mitigation Djumarma Wirakusumah announced on Friday that the status of Mount Guntur in Garut had been lowered from level two (alert) to level one (active/normal) based on observation last month.
Observation revealed that although Mount Guntur was continually blanketed in smoke, there was no sign of anomalies. The temperature at a hot water creek in Cipanas was 47 Celsius degrees, which is similar to active/normal status.
Garut administration spokesman Satriabudi called on the public not to overreact to information from unknown sources since the directorate had lowered the volcano's status on May 20. -- Antara
