Mount Bromo Tourism Closed Completely Due to Caldera Fire

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Authority has decided to completely close all tourist access to Mount Bromo. This policy was taken to streamline efforts to extinguish forest and land fires that are increasingly spreading in the area.

The total closure took effect on Saturday at 22.00 WIB. Head of the TNBTS Authority, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, explained that the decision was based on the current conditions on the ground, where the flames in the Bromo Caldera area continue to propagate.

“In order to effectively extinguish the fire, visits to Bromo from all entry points are closed for tourism,” Rudijanta said in an official statement.

The closure covers five main entry points across four administrative regions.

This step was also taken to guarantee the security and safety of visitors. The authority has not yet been able to confirm when the iconic tourist area will be reopened.

For visitors who have purchased tickets through the online booking system, the TNBTS Authority is providing two compensation options.

Based on visual monitoring via the official TNBTS Instagram account, a large fire was seen blazing on a cliff area near the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT). The latest reports from field officers indicate that the fire has also spread towards Mount Kursi.

Rudijanta urged all tourism service operators to temporarily cease activities within the TNBTS area. “This is for our collective safety, security, and comfort,” he concluded.
