Mount Bromo to be Fully Closed from 30 May to 2 June 2026
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) will fully close all tourism activities in the Mount Bromo area from 30 May to 2 June 2026. TNBTS Chief Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha stated the closure is to honour the annual Yadnya Kasada ceremony conducted by the Tengger community at Bromo. ‘The closure of the Bromo area will take effect from 00:00 WIB on 30 May 2026 until 23:59 WIB on 2 June 2026 for the Kasada ritual,’ said Rudijanta on Monday, 25 May 2026. The decision follows a circular from the Head of the Tengger Region Dukun Pandita Assembly, No. 294/E/PDP-Tengger/V/2026, regarding the 2026 Yadnya Kasada Ritual. During the closure, the Mount Bromo area at 2,329 metres above sea level will be accessible only to indigenous people and those directly involved in the ritual proceedings. In addition to the ritual, the closure on 2 June will also be used for post-ceremony clean-up activities. ‘The area will only be open to staff and residents involved in the clean-up,’ said Rudi. TNBTS confirmed the Mount Bromo tourist area will reopen to the public on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, from 01:00 WIB. National park authorities have urged tourists and tourism service providers to comply with the closure regulations and respect the Tengger community’s long-standing traditions. From January to May 2026, Mount Bromo recorded 344,039 visitors, including 332,432 domestic tourists and 11,607 international visitors.
