Mount Anak Krakatau Volcanic Activity Increases, Residents Around Sunda Strait Urged to Be Vigilant

Volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, has increased recently. Residents in surrounding coastal areas have been urged to remain vigilant. The head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post stated that the heightened activity has been detected through visual observations and seismic recordings from volcano monitoring equipment. “Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau is still showing quite high volcanic activity, so the public is advised to remain alert and not to approach areas designated as danger zones,” he said. He explained that intensive monitoring is being carried out 24 hours a day to detect developments in the volcano’s activity. The data collected serves as the basis for determining mitigation measures to reduce disaster risk. According to him, monitoring results indicate that seismic activity and gas emissions are still being recorded by the equipment. These conditions are indicators that volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau is ongoing. Therefore, residents, tourists, and fishermen are urged not to conduct activities within the radius recommended by the volcanology authorities to avoid risks that may arise from eruptions or the ejection of volcanic material. “Mount Anak Krakatau remains at Level II, or Alert status. Fishermen and tourists are asked not to approach within a two-kilometre radius of the Mount Anak Krakatau crater,” he stated.
