Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts Tonight, Alert Status Maintained
Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait erupted tonight. The eruption occurred at approximately 20:13 WIB.
This information was released by the Geological Agency via its official social media account on Monday (5/10/2026). In its statement, the height of the eruption ash column was not observed.
“An eruption of Mt. Anak Krakatau, Lampung, occurred on 05 October 2026 at 20:13 WIB, but the height of the ash column was not observed,” the Geological Agency wrote in its post.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 55 millimetres (mm). The duration of the eruption was recorded at approximately 6 minutes and 29 seconds.
Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau remains at Level II, or alert status.
The Geological Agency has urged the public, visitors, tourists, and hikers not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau.
“The public/visitors/tourists/hikers should not approach Mt. Anak Krakatau or engage in activities within a 2 km radius of the active crater,” wrote the Geological Agency.
This advisory has been issued to anticipate the potential dangers of Mount Anak Krakatau’s volcanic activity.
