Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts Again This Morning
Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) erupted again on Tuesday (8/9) morning.
Based on information cited from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Magma website, Mount Anak Krakatau erupted several times this morning. Eruptions were recorded at 05.08 WIB, 05.34 WIB and most recently at 07.49 WIB.
“An eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, at 07:49 WIB. The visual eruption was not observed. This eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 48 mm and a duration of 19 seconds,” according to a statement on the Magma page of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources at 07.49 WIB.
The Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that the continuous eruptions of Mount Anak Krakatau had ceased on Sunday, 6 September 2026 at 00.04 WIB. However, the potential for follow-up eruptions is still considered high.
The head of PVMBG at the Ministry of ESDM, Siti Sumilah Rita Susilawati, said in her statement that the activity level of Mount Anak Krakatau remains at Level III, or Standby, even though the continuous eruptions have stopped.
