Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts Again This Afternoon, Lasting 17 Seconds

Mount Anak Krakatau erupted again this afternoon. The eruption was recorded for 17 seconds.

According to the website of the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the eruption occurred this afternoon at 11.34 WIB on Tuesday (8/9/2026). The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 55 mm.

“An eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, at 11:34 WIB,” PVMBG wrote.

The height of the eruption column was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 50 mm and a duration of 17 seconds.

Members of the public are urged not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau or carry out activities within a 3 km radius of the active crater.

As of this afternoon, Mount Anak Krakatau has erupted four times today. Previously, the first eruption occurred at 05.08 WIB, the second at 05.34 WIB, and the third at 07.49 WIB.

During the first eruption, the visual eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47 mm and a duration of 15 seconds.

The second eruption was also not observed visually. It was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 44 mm and a duration of 10 seconds.

The third eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 48 mm and a duration of 19 seconds. The visual condition of the eruption was also not observed.
