Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption: PKS Urges Government to Strengthen Disaster Mitigation

PKS President Almuzzammil Yusuf has asked the government to strengthen disaster mitigation following rising volcanic activity and eruptions at several volcanoes in Indonesia, including Mount Anak Krakatau. He said the increase in volcanic activity must be met with vigilance and preparedness.

“Observing the rising volcanic activity and the eruptions of several volcanoes across Indonesia, I, on behalf of the entire Prosperous Justice Party family, convey sympathy, empathy and solidarity to all affected communities,” Almuzzammil told reporters on Tuesday (8/9/2026).

He reminded that Indonesia is a country located in a disaster-prone region. He therefore urged communities in affected areas to follow the directions of the government and officers in the field.

“Every increase in natural activity must be faced with vigilance, preparedness and a spirit of mutual care,” he said.

He said public safety must be the priority, and urged the government and relevant parties to strengthen disaster mitigation.

“We encourage the government and all relevant elements to continue strengthening disaster mitigation. This strengthening includes public protection, healthcare services, transport security and assistance for affected residents,” he said.

Almuzzammil also asked all PKS members to help affected communities, noting that disaster response requires the mutual cooperation of all elements of society.

“In facing disaster, we must strengthen one another and ensure that affected communities do not face this calamity alone,” he concluded.

Previously, the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau caused volcanic ash to spread across several areas. The eruption has now ended after 25 hours, and the characteristics of the eruption have changed.

“Three strombolian eruptions occurred after the continuous eruption episode ended,” the Geological Agency said via its Threads account @badan.geologi on Monday (7/9).

The continuous eruption episode of Mount Anak Krakatau began on Friday (4/9) at 23.07 WIB and ended on Sunday (6/9) at 00.04 WIB. Mount Anak Krakatau is now experiencing strombolian eruptions.

For information, a strombolian eruption is a type of volcanic eruption with relatively mild explosions. Strombolian activity can last a very long time, allowing the eruption system to repeatedly reset itself.
