MOU signed to uphold property rights
JAKARTA: The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and the National Police signed on Tuesday the memorandum of understanding to cooperate in eradicating rampant intellectual property rights violations, mostly video CDs and software.
The memorandum was signed by Justice Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra and National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar at Yusril's office on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.
Yusril told reporters later that his ministry could not act alone to combat the property rights piracy as it did not have power against the perpetrators.
Property rights violations remain rampant in Indonesia. In 2001, the United State Representatives (USTR) put Indonesia on its "Priority Watch-List" of property rights violations. -- JP

House to probe Sukhoi purchase
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives Commission I said on Tuesday it would establish a working committee to see if there were any irregularities in the recent procurement of four Sukhoi jet fighters from Russia.
"The Russian jet fighter procurement should be in the hands of the Ministry of Defense, not the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the National Logistics Agency," Vice Chairman of the Commission I Effendi Choirie said.
According to him, the Sukhoi procurement had violated regulations and did not follow procedures through the state budget.
"We'll set up a working committee to look into it," he said. - Antara
