Motorola launches V600 and V303 phones

Dewi Santoso, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

In a bid to help boost its share in the local cellular phone market, PT Motorola Indonesia launched on Thursday two new products, the V303 and V600, which respectively targets mid-end and high-end market segments.

Motorola operations manager Agus Pranata said the company was aiming for a 20 percent increase in sales this year. However, he declined to provide last year's sales figure, saying only that "last year's sales was quite large, but I cannot give you the figure as I'm bound to confidentiality".

Unremarkable in design, the Bluetooth-enabled V600 is the first Motorola phone equipped with quad band technology, which enables wireless transfer of data from the phone to a computer. The V600 is designed to cater to young executives who travel often, and carries a price tag of Rp 4.7 million ($553).

The V303, which is not Bluetooth- or MPEG-enabled, sports similar features and costs Rp 3 million.

Agus said within this year, Motorola Indonesia aimed to sell thousands of the V303 and V600 per month.

He added that, by year's end, the company would launch between three and four models based on code division multiple access (CDMA) technology, and around 12 others supporting global system for mobile communications (GSM) technology.

Earlier this year, Motorola launched the C131, a CDMA-based cell phone model targeting low-end users, who comprise 60 percent of Motorola's market share.
