Motorists Still Riding Against Traffic at Ciawi Intersection in Bogor After Being Blocked by Children

A group of young boys was recorded on camera blocking motorists riding against the flow of traffic on Jalan Raya Wangun near Simpang Ciawi in Bogor, West Java, and the footage subsequently went viral on social media. Following the incident, many motorists are still being observed riding against the traffic at the location where the children staged their intervention.

Based on observations at the site on Thursday (11/6/2026), the point where the children blocked wrong-way motorists is located just before Simpang Ciawi. Vehicles heading towards Puncak or Sukabumi are supposed to make a U-turn at the Jagorawi Toll Road turnaround.

At the scene, many motorists were still seen riding against the traffic flow. This action repeatedly obstructed the flow of vehicles coming from Ciawi towards Bogor City. Motorists travelling in the wrong direction were observed moving to the right side of the road to cut into the lane heading towards Jalan Raya Ciawi-Sukabumi. Local residents say such dangerous manoeuvres occur frequently, often causing traffic jams.

‘It is indeed frequent here, not just in the afternoon. Especially in the morning, it is definitely jammed with many people going the wrong way. Sometimes those riding against the flow get even more aggressive when told off,’ said a trader named Ridwan at the location. Ridwan mentioned that the group of young children from the viral video are often in the area, and some drivers even give them money.

‘Yes, here. Those kids are often here. Yesterday, the head of the neighbourhood unit reprimanded them because it’s dangerous for them too. But sometimes people in cars give them money, so the kids get motivated,’ Ridwan explained.

The video recording of a group of boys blocking a motorcyclist riding against the traffic flow around Simpang Ciawi went viral on social media. Police have cautioned that riding against the flow of traffic violates regulations and is dangerous.

‘As adults, we should see that as a firm reprimand. However, it would be better if motorists first obeyed the rules by not riding against the traffic,’ said Bogor City Police Traffic Unit officer Iptu Lukito when asked for confirmation on Thursday (11/6). ‘In fact, a turnaround point is provided at the location. Besides easing congestion, it also prevents accidents. Riding against the flow endangers both the rider and other people,’ he added.
