JAKARTA – The Traffic Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police has strengthened monitoring on Jalan DI Panjaitan, precisely in front of the Jatinegara Sub-district Office in East Jakarta.

Deputy Head of the Traffic Unit of East Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Sunaryo, said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Transport (Dishub) and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) because the violation occurred in a government office precinct.

‘We are also anticipating counter-flow since it is close to Jatinegara District, we are working with the Dishub to issue advisories so that people do not drive against the flow,’ Sunaryo said when met on Wednesday (4/3/2026).

‘In response to residents’ complaints about several riders driving against the flow around Jalan DI Panjaitan, precisely in front of the Department of Religious Affairs, we are deploying officers around the crime scene area,’ he added.

According to Sunaryo, Satlantas Jakarta Timur will take action using the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) handheld system.

‘The handheld functions like a camera; we photograph the violations. For violations that have been captured in photographs, they will automatically be blocked in our ETLE system,’ he explained.

Although officers have been stationed in the location, two to three motorcyclists were still seen going against the flow from the direction of the Jatinegara District Office toward Otista.

‘There were still a few, but they are motorbikes. Some motorbikes may have evaded monitoring or officers; they continued to ride, and we will continue to take action using the handheld,’ he said.

In a video uploaded by the Instagram account @lintasjakartaupdate, a car can be seen continuing to travel against the flow even though blocked by bystanders.

According to circulating narration, the vehicle was driving against the flow in front of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kanwil Kemenag) heading towards Otista III, or making a U-turn in front of the Jatinegara District Office.

‘This is against the flow, it’s in that direction, reversing,’ the video recorder said.

As observed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (3/3/2026) afternoon, no car was seen driving against the flow. However, several motorcyclists were still going in the opposite direction.

The condition of Jalan DI Panjaitan in front of the Jatinegara District Office was observed to be relatively quiet. Traffic cones were also visible at the site to deter riders attempting to drive against the flow.
