Motorists advised to avoid Jalan Tendean after truck gets stuck on pedestrian bridge
The South Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudin Perhubungan) has advised motorists to avoid Jalan Kapten Tendean heading towards Blok M after a truck transporting heavy equipment became stuck on the Tendean Pedestrian Bridge (JPO).
During the evacuation process starting at 10.00 a.m., traffic flow towards Blok M will be diverted. Vehicles from the east are being redirected in front of the Mampang Police Station, while vehicles from Warung Buncit are being directed through the Mampang Underpass towards Jalan Gatot Subroto, said Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Agency, Bernad Octavianus, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Bernad stated that the JPO suffered severe damage after being struck by the truck. As a result of the impact, one of the support pillars detached from its foundation, necessitating the immediate evacuation of the bridge for the safety of road users.
A total of 20 personnel from the South Jakarta Transportation Agency have been stationed at several points to manage traffic flow and alleviate congestion during the evacuation process. “We have mitigated several points, namely the Mampang descent, the incident location, including the Santa traffic light. Traffic engineering will commence as soon as the heavy evacuation vehicles arrive at the location,” he said.
Bernad added that the truck that struck the JPO will only be evacuated after the bridge structure has been successfully lowered and confirmed to be in a safe condition. “Please follow the directions of officers in the field and prioritise safety while driving,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, Rifki Rismal, added that the handling process is still awaiting heavy equipment. The initial stage will involve cutting the roof section of the JPO before removing the main structure of the bridge. “We will sever it first, then remove the girders. Hopefully, by late afternoon the handling process will be completed and run optimally,” said Rifki.
