There is one aspect that is often overlooked during homecoming journeys: vehicle load capacity. The Jakarta Metro Police Directorate of Traffic has reminded two-wheeled vehicle riders not to turn their motorcycles into “moving warehouses” by carrying excessive amounts of goods or overloading their vehicles.

“We are appealing for people to pay attention first to their baggage and the family members they are carrying, to avoid overloading, and to comply with the stipulations of traffic regulations,” said Kombes Pol Komarudin, Head of the Jakarta Metro Police Directorate of Traffic, when met in Jakarta on Monday, 10 March 2026.

Komarudin also stated that if homebound travellers are found carrying excessive baggage on the road, they will be subject to enforcement action by field personnel. “Our posts will be distributed throughout the route to monitor all community activities, ranging from service posts, security posts, integrated posts, to observation posts,” he said.

Members of the public using two-wheeled vehicles for homecoming journeys are advised to utilise the distributed security and service posts to take brief rest stops. However, he still encouraged the public to take advantage of free mudik programmes rather than travel using two-wheeled vehicles.

“Several parties are already implementing free mudik programmes, which the public can take advantage of. This also includes PT KAI, which is planning to provide transport services for two-wheeled vehicles using trains. This would certainly be more comfortable and safer,” he said.

According to him, compared to undertaking lengthy journeys using two-wheeled vehicles, free mudik programmes should perhaps be reconsidered. This is especially so given the current weather conditions, which carry considerable risk.
