Motorcyclists using two-wheeled vehicles dominated the Pantura Highway Cikarang section in Bekasi Regency, West Java on the 6th day before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijra (Sunday, 15 June 2026), according to observations at the Cikarang Wholesale Centre Junction (SGC) in North Cikarang District.

Observations revealed many homecoming travellers chose night-time for their journeys to avoid the intense midday heat, making travel more comfortable. “I work at a factory in Tangerang and now that I have leave, my wife and I chose to travel at night to avoid congestion,” said Saepul (36 years old) at the SGC junction.

Saepul, who would travel to Wonosobo with his wife, noted that night travel was also selected to maintain comfort whilst fasting. “Moreover, we hope to arrive at our destination before dawn prayers,” he said.

He acknowledged being caught in traffic in Bekasi Regency, particularly around Cibitung Market, approximately eight kilometres before the SGC junction. “I was stuck in traffic from Bekasi City until Cibitung. The area in front of Cibitung Market was heavily congested, possibly coinciding with rush hour from work. It took two hours to reach here (SGC),” he said.

Another traveller, Aldi (28), journeying from Jakarta to Bandung with a colleague also chose night-time departure despite heavy traffic from leaving Jakarta through Bekasi Regency. “Traffic has been heavy since evening through to Bekasi, and it’s getting busier now. Actually, if we had left in the afternoon it wouldn’t have been too bad, but we were worried about the breaking of the fast time, so we chose to ride at night instead,” he said.

Aldi estimated the journey to Bandung could be completed in approximately five hours when travelled at a leisurely pace. Meanwhile, the increased vehicle volume on the arterial Pantura Cikarang route is expected to continue rising as the peak of the Eid homecoming rush approaches.
