Motorcyclists Begin Crowding Ciwandan Port Ahead of Eid Holiday
Hundreds of motorcyclists heading home for Eid al-Fitr have begun crowding Ciwandan Port in Cilegon, Banten, on Monday (16 March), five days before Hari Raya Idulfitri.
From observations beginning at 17:00 WIB, motorcycles continued to fill the waiting area before boarding vessels. The port has established 12 designated lanes with tents for travellers waiting to board.
Motorcyclists travelling to Sumatra were waiting approximately one hour before being permitted to proceed onto the ferries.
Travellers began arriving in significant numbers from 18:30 WIB onwards, following the time of breaking fast. One motorcycle lane was filled with hundreds of bikes within less than an hour.
One traveller, Fandi (27), reported departing from South Jakarta at 13:00 WIB and arriving at the port around 18:30. Fandi was returning home to Lampung by motorcycle.
“I’ve taken leave earlier to spend more time in the village,” said Fandi, who has been commuting by motorcycle since beginning work in Jakarta last year.
Benny Ariadi, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Banten, stated earlier that the port authority was continuously monitoring traffic and passenger flow dynamics closely to ensure all services operated safely and in an orderly manner, providing comfort to travellers.
“We continue to monitor traffic movement in real-time and are strengthening coordination with all stakeholders to maintain optimal service delivery, serving with all our hearts,” said Benny.
By Sunday (15 March), total passenger numbers passing through Ciwandan Port had reached 8,899 people, comprising motorcycle riders and logistics vehicle drivers.
Total vehicles transiting through Ciwandan Port on Sunday reached 6,524 units, a combination of motorcycles and logistics vehicles.
