Motorcyclists returning to their hometowns have begun arriving at Ciwandan Port in Cilegon. Queues of two-wheeled vehicles are visible entering the port area to cross towards Sumatra Island.

Observations at the location on Saturday, 14 March 2026, showed the atmosphere at Ciwandan Port in Cilegon becoming increasingly crowded with returning travellers on motorcycles. Motorcycles bearing registration plates from the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek) appeared to be dominating the queues.

They appeared to be carrying various goods on their motorcycles to take to their home villages. Several travellers were carrying rucksacks and large bundles tied to the rear of their motorcycles.

Port officials at the location were seen reminding the motorcyclists to turn off their vehicle engines whilst queuing. The advice was conveyed through loudspeakers.

“Please turn off your engines, as pollution can harm health, especially for children,” said a port official through the loudspeaker.

Motorcyclists who had initially left their engines running subsequently turned them off.

Whilst waiting in queue, travellers could take shelter at makeshift posts and small tented food stalls located along the roadside. At Ciwandan Port, travellers could also utilise the free toilet facilities available.

Ciwandan Port is used as a port for transporting motorcyclists and small trucks or two-axle vehicles. The port has the capacity to accommodate approximately 4,800 motorcycles, with 12 queuing lanes provided for travellers.
