Motorcyclist Killed as Tree Falls on Road in South Jakarta
A large tree toppled onto Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung, in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, as heavy rain and strong winds hit the area in the early hours of Sunday (8 March). The incident struck a motorcyclist passing by, who died at the scene. The unidentified victim was evacuated in a deceased condition and transported to Rumah Sakit Brimob Kelapa Dua for further treatment. Officials rushed to the scene to evacuate and clear the fallen tree, which had blocked the road. The responses are being carried out by the relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of the extreme weather.
In addition to the fallen tree, the heavy rain and strong winds also caused floods in several areas of West and South Jakarta. According to data from the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Sunday morning, 39 RTs and 13 roads were flooded, with water depths ranging from 20 cm to 1.5 metres. The highest water level reached 1.5 metres in the Pela Mampang sub-district, South Jakarta. The BPBD Jakarta has taken various measures to mitigate the floods across affected locations. Personnel have been deployed to monitor standing water in each area and coordinate with the Dinas SDA, Dinas Bina Marga, and Dinas Gulkarmat to pump out the water and ensure drainage channels are functioning properly.
“We urge the public to remain cautious and vigilant for the potential of flooding. In emergencies, call 112. The service is free and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Yohan said.
