Motorcyclist Injured After Hitting Pothole Hidden by Rainwater on MT Haryono Street
Jakarta — A motorcyclist was involved in a single-vehicle accident after allegedly passing through a pothole obscured by rainwater on MT Haryono street heading towards Cawang, East Jakarta, early Sunday morning (8 March 2026).
According to AKBP Ojo Ruslani, Deputy Head of Traffic Law Enforcement at the Jakarta Metro Police, the accident occurred when the rider, identified as AR (28), was travelling from Gatot Subroto street towards Cikoko Flyover street. At the accident location, AR reportedly failed to notice the pothole because it was concealed by rainwater accumulation.
As a result of the incident, AR fell and sustained multiple injuries, including lacerations to the forehead, chin, and leg. The motorcycle he was riding also suffered significant damage, including a cracked headlight, bent handlebars, and a broken fairing. The victim was taken to Tebet Hospital for medical treatment.
Following the accident, police coordinated with the South Jakarta Road Works Sub-Office to promptly repair the pothole at the location to prevent similar incidents. By morning, officers from the South Jakarta Road Works Sub-Office had begun patching the damaged road section.
“Several road sections on MT Haryono were immediately repaired to ensure traffic flow and minimise the number of accidents during the current rainy season,” Ojo stated.
Meanwhile, Rifki Rismal, Head of the South Jakarta Road Works Sub-Office, said his office was still surveying numerous pothole-affected road sections in South Jakarta for immediate repair. “Therefore, to secure the roads temporarily, we are using cold-mix asphalt due to unpredictable weather conditions,” he said separately.
