Motorcyclist in Surabaya Dies After Falling into Water Channel Project Trench

Two motorcyclists fell into a water channel construction project on Jalan Margorejo Indah, directly in front of Plasa Marina, Surabaya, East Java. One person was reported dead and the other unconscious.

According to detikJatim on Saturday (13/6/2026), officers from the relevant department received a report of the incident from a resident named Tika on Friday (12/6) at 19:55 WIB. Surabaya City Fire and Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to the scene.

Head of the Fire and Rescue Division at the Surabaya DPKP, M. Rokhim, stated that his team received the report at around 19:55 WIB. Field officers immediately moved swiftly to handle the situation given the critical condition of one of the victims.

“That is correct, our officers from Poskotis Joyoboyo received the report at 19:55 WIB and immediately coordinated and carried out the evacuation at the location. The evacuation process for the two victims along with one Supra X 125 motorcycle with registration number L 5478 AAE was completed at 20:48 WIB,” Rokhim said in a statement on Friday evening.

The first victim was identified as a man with the initials EP (65), who was found unconscious. The second victim was a woman with the initials LE (69), who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Both victims and the vehicle were successfully removed from the water channel, which is currently under construction. The deceased victim and the unconscious victim have now been taken by ambulance to Bhayangkara Hospital,” Rokhim added.
