Motorcyclist Falls Due to Pothole on Condet Road, Residents Complain About Shoddy Repairs

A viral video shows a motorcyclist falling on Jalan Raya Condet, right in front of Rindam Jaya in East Jakarta, due to a pothole. The video, uploaded by the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini, depicts a fairly deep hole on the left side of Jalan Raya Condet heading towards Jalan TB Simatupang. The area around the hole appears filled with sand fragments. As a result of the incident, the victim was immediately rushed to hospital by ambulance, assisted by TNI members at the location. “A single-vehicle accident occurred when a motorcyclist fell due to a pothole on Jalan Raya Condet in East Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026) afternoon. The hole is suspected to be from an excavation that has not been properly repaired,” states the caption from the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini. Damaged roads are not only found around Rindam Jaya. Several points along Jalan Raya Condet also show potholes and undulations. Local resident Alfred (60) said the accident happened on Tuesday (24/3/2026) afternoon. At that time, the victim was travelling from Cililitan towards Jalan TB Simatupang. “The road wasn’t fast as far as I know, probably trying to avoid the hole and then fell, because it’s deep. Thank God he didn’t die, just a head injury,” said Alfred when met on Thursday (27/3/2026). Alfred revealed that the road was damaged due to remnants of excavations that were not maximally patched. “It’s been like this for a month (damaged road), asphalted sloppily, not neat. So it pricks people passing by,” he explained. According to Alfred, the road was repaired right after the accident incident. However, not long after, the road formed a depression again. “That afternoon, if I’m not mistaken, it was patched with asphalt, but it’s like that again. The repair is really haphazard, even though accidents happen often,” he said. Meanwhile, Kompas.com has sought a response from the Head of the Road Infrastructure Sub-Department of East Jakarta, Benhard Hutajulu, regarding this matter. However, there has been no response as of yet.
