Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting Transjakarta Road Separator on Gunung Sahari

An incident involving a Transjakarta bus and a motorcycle occurred on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 4 March, at 23:31 WIB. One motorcyclist died and another was treated for injuries. CCTV footage from inside the Transjakarta bus shows that the motorcycle, two men on board, sped from the direction of Pademangan towards Pasar Senen. ‘PT Transjakarta expresses deep condolences over the accident involving the bus operated by DMR 240205 and a motorcycle in the Kampung Melayu direction,’ said Ayu Wardhani, Head of Public Relations and CSR, on Thursday (5/3). The motorcyclist attempted to overtake other vehicles to enter the bus lane. Driving too fast in the narrow overtaking space caused him to lose control and strike the road separator. ‘The motorbike hit the separator (MCB), toppled into the lane, and came into contact with a bus travelling at about 40 km/h,’ she said. After hitting the barrier, both riders were ejected into the bus lane, and a Transjakarta bus was also in the lane, making the collision unavoidable. In the initial handling, the victim was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), while the other injured rider was taken to Hermina Podomoro Hospital. ‘Transjakarta has provided CCTV footage and cooperated fully, with the investigation being handed over to the police,’ Ayu added. The bus fleet has been secured at Pancoran Traffic Accident Unit. The case is being handled by the Metro Jaya Police’s Traffic Directorate. Transjakarta urged all road users to exercise caution and not enter bus lanes for safety.
