Motorcycle Thief Who Murdered Ride-Hailing Driver in Tangerang Shot During Arrest

Police have arrested a man named Rahmat Dimas, the suspect in the murder of a ride-hailing driver with the initials ATP, who was attacked whilst sleeping at a driver base camp in the Kosambi area of Tangerang City, Banten. The suspect was shot after resisting arrest.

“He also fled the crime scene and his residence. He resisted the officers who were arresting and pursuing him, so the Resmob Sub-directorate of Polda Metro Jaya took firm and measured action against the suspect,” said Unit V Head of the Resmob Sub-directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, to reporters on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday (14/7) at 00:30 WIB at a rented house on Jalan Bunderan Kamal, Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. Footage received by detikcom showed the suspect’s leg bandaged as he was taken to Polda Metro Jaya.

The murder of the ride-hailing driver occurred on Sunday (12/7), at around 03:50 WIB, in the Villa Taman Bandara housing complex, Dadap, Kosambi, Tangerang Regency. The suspect also stole the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone.

“The victim was a ride-hailing driver. The victim lost a Honda PCX motorcycle and a mobile phone,” said Tangerang City Police Public Relations Head, AKP Iwan Heristiawan.

A colleague of the victim had earlier spotted an unknown person at the driver base camp. The suspect then fled with the victim’s motorcycle and phone. “When passing by again, the witness saw the unknown person taking the victim’s motorcycle. He gave chase but lost track of him in the Kamal area, North Jakarta,” he stated.

After losing the suspect’s trail, the witness returned to the scene. According to Iwan, the victim died at the location. “The victim was stabbed whilst sleeping. He died at the scene, suffering a stab wound to the neck,” he said.
