Motorcycle Thief Shoots and Kills Police Officer in Lampung, Sahroni: Insult to State Institutions, Maximum Penalty Mandatory
Jakarta, VIVA – Brigadir Arya Supena (34) was killed after being shot while catching a motorcycle thief in the act in Bandarlampung on Saturday, 9 May 2026. Arya was shot in the head and could not be saved.
The Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Regional Police, Yuni Iswandari Yuyun, stated that the police are investigating the case and pursuing the shooter.
The case has also drawn the attention of Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives. The NasDem politician has called on law enforcement to impose punishment on the perpetrator.
“This phenomenon of criminals opposing authorities is very dangerous. Criminals are becoming increasingly reckless, no longer fearing the police but daring to kill them. If they dare against authorities, how much more against ordinary citizens who lack authority and weapon protection. This cannot be allowed to continue. The Lampung Regional Police must act firmly, capture the perpetrator, and charge them with the maximum criminal penalty,” said Sahroni in his statement on Monday, 11 May 2026.
Furthermore, Sahroni emphasised that the authorities’ firmness in handling this case is crucial to show that the state cannot be defeated by increasingly reckless and brutal criminals.
“For criminal cases like this, the state must demonstrate the authority of its law in maintaining security and public order. Do not let there be an impression that criminals can easily oppose authorities. All those involved in this gang must be hunted down and prosecuted without compromise,” said Sahroni.
