Police have uncovered a motorcycle thief who posed as a pecel lele restaurant employee in Cilandak, South Jakarta, and has committed 10 thefts across Jabodetabek. ‘AR (27) admitted to committing the thefts at 10 crime scenes acting alone,’ said Cilandak Police Chief Kompol Gusprihatin Zen during a press conference on Monday. The suspect waited for victims to be distracted and the restaurant quiet before stealing motorcycle keys and fleeing. He was arrested in Bogor while attempting to sell the stolen vehicle. Following the arrest, police found his operations spanned Bekasi, Depok, Cikarang, Tangerang, and Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta. Initial investigations revealed he acted alone, moving between different workplaces to find targets. ‘Yes, the suspect is a repeat offender, but not part of a group,’ he added. Police seized a Honda PCX motorcycle as evidence, with an estimated loss of around Rp35 million. The suspect faces charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code for theft, with a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a Rp500 million fine, which could increase to nine years due to the nighttime nature of the crime. He is currently undergoing further investigation at Cilandak Police Station.
