Motorcycle Thief in Rantau Pulung Arrested by Kutim Police's 'Macan' Team
A man from Boyolali, Central Java, with the initials DR, 23, offered no resistance when he was apprehended by the Tiger Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of East Kutai (Kutim) Police together with the Rantau Pulung Sector Police. The suspect was arrested after committing motorcycle theft in the Margo Mulyo sub-district, Rantau Pulung, East Kutai.
The unemployed suspect was arrested without resistance on Monday evening (20 July) as he passed along Jalan Ahmad Yani in Suka Rahmat village, Teluk Pandan sub-district, East Kutai.
East Kutai Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Aryansyah, through Head of Criminal Investigation Adjunct Commissioner Rangga, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday (21 July). The case came to light after a report from the victim, Santi Fitriani, who lost a blue Yamaha WR 155 trail motorcycle with registration plate KT 2949 RDY.
“The incident began in early June. At the time, the victim forgot to remove the ignition key, which was still attached to the motorcycle after returning home from work. Taking advantage of the victim’s oversight, the perpetrator struck in the early hours at around 00.30 Central Indonesia Time,” said Rangga.
DR’s actions were captured on the neighbour’s CCTV camera. Armed with the footage and the results of field investigations, officers conducted an in-depth analysis until they successfully identified the perpetrator and placed him on the East Kutai Police wanted list (DPO).
During the pursuit, the East Kutai Police Tiger Team coordinated with the Traffic Unit of Bontang Police because the suspect had been detected carrying out activities in Bontang.
“After a manhunt, we finally managed to intercept and arrest the perpetrator on a road in Teluk Pandan, East Kutai, without resistance. Police also seized one stolen motorcycle as evidence,” Rangga explained.
Based on preliminary questioning, the perpetrator’s motive for brazenly stealing the motorcycle was that he wanted to own a vehicle as a means of transport to look for work.
“The suspect and the evidence have now been secured at East Kutai Police Headquarters to undergo further legal proceedings. The perpetrator is charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code concerning theft,” he concluded.
