Following investigations, the suspect has confessed to committing motorcycle thefts dozens of times across several areas in Jakarta, according to the Head of Criminal Investigation at Tambora Police, AKP Sudrajat Djumantara, on Thursday (4/6/2026).

The arrest took place on Monday (26/5) following an investigation into a reported motorcycle theft. In the Tambora area of West Jakarta alone, the suspect is recorded to have struck at least six times.

In executing his crimes, the perpetrator would scout locations alone in search of motorcycles. His primary targets were vehicles lacking additional security locks, parked in residential alleys or relatively deserted areas.

After stealing the motorcycles, the suspect would transport them to other regions to sell them and evade detection. Specifically, the stolen motorcycles were sold in the Pandeglang Regency, Banten.

“So far, we have secured six motorcycles suspected to be the proceeds of these thefts, and we are continuing our investigation to uncover other sales locations,” stated the officer.

The suspect also frequently changed or forged the licence plates of the stolen vehicles before sale. For his actions, he faces charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with aggravating circumstances, carrying a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
